Verbier ski resort has carved a place in the hearts of many British guests, as a favourite Swiss destination. Located within the country/?/s largest lift-linked ski areas, the 4 Valleys, the village, which lies in the shadow of Mont Blanc has been largely purpose-built over the past 60 or so years, but you would think the picturesque, traditional chalet style buildings had been there for centuries. The ski area has nearly 2,200 vertical metres between the highest lifts up on the former summer ski destination of the Mont Fort glacier, and the lowest runs. Although there?s no marked piste, in exceptionally snowy winters some of the world?s longest vertical descents of nearly 2,500 vertical metres are possible down to the valley floor below the village. A quarter of the domain's runs are above Verbier itself, the largest single sector in the region. Verbier caters for all abilities but experts will love the off-piste that is straight out of a magazine. Too good to be true? Well, Verbier is expensive and snobby to the extreme. There are ways to cut costs (a nice youth hostel in the valley if you can stand the commute) otherwise expect to pay through the nose for pretty much everything! There are plenty of places to eat and drink if you have the money, it is a party-town as well.
