Sainte Foy on the Italian border, is a small resort that The Sunday Times voted The Best Family Ski Resort in the World, that offers intimate skiing with the emphasis on off-piste but with several giant resorts nearby. Sainte Foy is only really busy when skiers from the big resorts descend to the sheltered tree-lined slopes when storms have closed lifts higher up. There is powder just yards from the pistes at Sainte Foy which lasts for days thanks to the northwest facing slopes. Access to nearby resorts of the Tarentaise Valley, so you can easily be skiing Les Arcs, Tignes and Val d?Isere, for a discounted price. Add in the high quality accommodation available and the option of heliskiing in to Italy. Take a guide to explore one of the renowned off-piste routes to the deserted farming hamlet of Le Monal, or the infamous 1700 m vertical descent of the north face of Fogliettaz. The nearest airport to Sainte Foy is Chambery which is an hour and a half away, and Geneva only 2. Along with a two year old 6 man lift, a new state of the art Dopplemayr lift 900m long which can transport up to 1000 skiers an hour is under construction ready for the 2014 season and another is being planned for 2015.  The actual ski resort of Sainte Foy has been built among the trees since 1990 in a south west facing bowl for maximum sunshine exposure, and in the traditional wood and stone-based architectural style of the region. However the resort is a community of more than a dozen small villages around its base of one ski station and is actually larger than Espace Killy.
