Purpose built, Les Arcs sits above Bourg St Maurice, the main transport town for the Alps. You can Eurostar from St Pancras, London and wake up in the Alps. The resort of Les Arcs is centred around 3 villages at 1600 which has a reputation as a quiet, family resort, 1800 ? which is where most of the action is and is the largest and most architecturally stylist of the four bases, and 2000, the high altitude resort known as a quieter base for those especially wanting to get to the tops of the runs first thing in the morning. It is also close to the resort?s Flying Kilometre run for speed skiing. . All three of these stereotypes have blurred somewhat over the decades as each base has grown, and while 1800 remains the main base, the others now have more going on in them too, and also new developments. The skiing at Les Arcs is unlimited now due to the link to nearby La Plagne (and the Paradiski area with more than 400km of piste spread over 10,000 hectares of mountainsides, are by some measures among the three biggest ski areas in the world.) via the double decker Vanoise Express and there is something for everyone; open bowls at the top, to tree skiing and cruiser greens, to steep as you like blacks, even a speed skiing run Off the piste Arc 1800 is the best place to stay and is well catered for in terms of food and accommodation. If you are on a budget, stay in Bourg and get the funicular up to Arc1600 each morning. Nightlife at Les Arcs is good in any of the villages, but don't expect transport between 2000/1950/1800/1600 late at night. There is a free bus.
