Good value for money, Chamrousse is a large purpose bult for the 1968 Grenoble Winter Olympics, predominantly French and family oriented resort with 26 lifts (9 chair lifts, 16 surface lifts) that offers skiers an impressive 855 metres (2806 feet) of vertical descent. Chamrousse has 865 acres of terrain over 35 pistes. Chamrousse is best suited to beginner skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for both expert and intermediates. There are 55 kilometers of cross country ski trails at Chamrousse. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park and a half pipe. About one quarter of the pistes at Chamrousse are covered by snowmaking. The nearest airport is at Lyon and the nearest train station to Chamrousse is at Grenoble. There is accommodation located close to the pistes. In common with most French purpose-built ski centres of the 1960s, Chamrousse mixes renovated old concrete apartment boxes with tasteful modern new wood clad residences. In the modern era it has built a reputation for offering some of the best value in France as well as for being one of the easiest resorts to reach, being only 32km from Grenoble.
